So you want to be a producer?
Hi All,
After a successful conclusion to this years production ‘Alice in Japan’ it is time to select a producer for next years musical.
HAJET is looking for an enthusiastic person to take on the role of producer. (see an outline of the duties of the producer below) I would stress the importance of the financial aspect of the role and suggest that a reasonable degree of Japanese fluency would be an advantage, but is not essential if you have others willing to help.
If you are interested in the theatre, like travelling and working with others why not submit an expression of interest to HAJET.
The producer is usually announced at the summer meeting so please get hopping on this great opportunity straight away.
PRODUCER
The producer oversees all aspects of mounting a theatrical production. They help obtain the script and work with the director to balance and coordinate the business and financial aspects of a show to realize the production’s artistic interpretation of the play.
A producer’s responsibilities include:
Production Setup –
- Casting
- Finding creative and technical staff
- Finding rehearsal locations
- Finding theatres
Creative and Technical Aspects –
Although they are responsible for bringing in creative designers, this is done in partnership with the director, who has equal approval of designers. The producer brings on members of the production team and stagehands not involved with the creative process as well.
Business and Finances –
- Obtaining and setting the budget
- Setting ticket prices
- Setting performance dates/times and locations
- Developing a marketing/advertising strategy.
Regards
