Ashibetsu’s 17th International Friendship Giant Pumpkin Festival
On Sunday October 18, Ashibetsu will be hosting its 17th International Friendship Giant Pumpkin Festival!
This year’s festival includes a pumpkin weight-off (with our sister city Charlottetown, P.E.), pumpkin carving, costume contest, face-painting for the kids, candy-eating and other games! It is a time for everyone to come celebrate a Halloween-esque festival with the people of Ashibetsu! This event is FREE!
Find out more after the break!

This year, the event is from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Please e-mail me to confirm your attendance!
Ashibetsu city is located about half and hour from Takikawa or Furano. Its about 40 minutes away from Asahikawa. Car, bus and train can get you here. And while you`re here, maybe you could also visit the Giant Buddha, Starlight Hotel Onsen or maybe even try some gatatan? Michi-no-eki is on Rt. 38, next to the bridge.

Car: (I suggest you Google) On Rt. 38, you will have to pass through Takikawa, Akabira etc. and eventually, you will arrive in Ashibetsu. Michi-no-eki is hard to miss.
Bus: (Recommended) From JR Sapporo station (Chuo Bus terminal): take the bus from the bus stop in direction for Furano (高速ふらの号). Get off in Ashibetsu at the stop called “front of Ashibetsu junior high school” (芦別中学校前 – ashibetsu chuu gakkou mae) Takes about 1h48 minutes. 1,800¥ each way if you pay cash; 3,150\ for round trip (2 tickets); 6,350¥ for 4 tickets. Michi-no-eki is across from Domu’s.
Train: From the JR Sapporo station to JR Ashibetsu station: take the Hakodate train line (函館本線- hakodate honsen) in direction for Takikawa station (滝川駅). Get off in Takikawa and change to the Nemuro line (根室本線) to get to Ashibetsu (about 1h40 minutes total). “S-kippu” (4,260¥) is a reduced fare roundtrip ticket from Sapporo.
