About

HAJET is the Hokkaido branch of the National Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching (AJET), a national organization founded by, but not exclusive to, participants of the JET Program.  AJET is a national body which, among other things, liaises with CLAIR on behalf of its members.

HAJET’s mission is to serve the needs of foreigners living in Hokkaido who are actively involved in the pursuit of internationalization within their communities through the exchange of culture and language.

HAJET has the reputation of being one of the most active AJET groups in Japan – and for good reason. Among other things, HAJET is responsible for:

  • Organizing several HAJET meetings each year, with meeting locations spread across Hokkaido so you get a chance to sample all the island has to offer
  • Putting on a spectacular touring musical every year, designed to be viewable for both English and non-English speakers
  • Maintaining a library for HAJET members
  • Organizing the Hokkaido English Challenge (HEC)
  • Sponsoring Project Outreach
  • Publishing numerous books on teaching and life in Japan
  • Organizing group tours so that JETs all over Japan can attend the Sapporo Snow Festival
  • Publishing the monthly HAJET Newsletter (The Polestar)
  • Funding international events in local communities
  • Fostering a supportive social network for foreigners sent to our great northern island
