HAJET Sapporo City Rep
Name: Michael Snyder
Nicknames: Mike or Michael – whichever you prefer!
Age: 2?
Hometown: Spring Grove, Pennsylvania
Where I live now: Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan
University/Major: American University, Washington D.C.; Foreign Language (German) and Communication Media (film & photography)
Family: Father, Mother, older brother.
Hobbies: Hiking, camping, cycling, cooking, travel, singing horrible renditions of great songs at karaoke, having an “occasional” drink with friends, watching movies, warping young minds at Japanese Jr. High schools.
Why JET?: I was fed up with a dead-end job back in Washington D.C., and I was tired of the rat race there. So I applied to JET, was accepted, and was placed into the wonderful city of Sapporo! I also wanted to try my hand at teaching to see if I liked it. Turns out I do! ? Thanks to the JET Programme, I finally realized a career path: My plan is to become a public school teacher when I go back to the U.S. – probably teaching German, social studies, ESL or English.
Why the HAJET PC?: I enjoy helping people and giving them useful information, so I thought becoming the Sapporo City rep would be a great way to do that. In Hokkaido, all roads lead to Sapporo, so Sapporo City JETs often cross paths with many other JETs. I know this city pretty well, so why not share my knowledge with those passing through town? There’s always something going on in Sapporo, so my goal is to include as many people as possible in the fun times here.
