Any kind of disaster quickly brings about jammed phone-lines and, if-any, patchy internet service. To combat these issues NTT, Docomo, Softbank, and au have their own disaster message boards available for use in disaster situations.
Users leave messages via voice-mail on NTT or text for the mobile companies, and it is hoped that instead of calling family/friends/employers, people will contact one another via the message boards, helping to keep phone-lines free for emergency calls only.

Hi there, Chelle the Hokkaido PA here. Originally an Aussie girl from the beautiful northern Gold Coast, I spent three years as an ALT in rural Hokkaido and have now taken up temporary residence in Sapporo as the Hokkaido PA and CIR.
